What can church life teach you about love? Plenty!
We all know how to love. We teach it to our child all the time.
We give kisses and hugs. We give words of encouragement and comfort.
We teach how to share. We teach patience, kindness and generosity.
So what can church life teach me that I don’t already know?
Okay. I’ll give you that.
It is in our Christian nature to love (Isaiah 40:1). As the hymn goes “they will know we are Christians by our love”.
But the “love” Christians speak of is unique.
So What is Christian Love?
Christian love is not purely done out of kindness.
We don’t love just to be nice. We don’t love so that we can get love back.
We love, because Christ loved us first. Through Christian love, we proclaim Christ as Lord.
As parents and guardians, when we model a Christ-like love, we:
- teach our child gratitude to Christ for every blessing in his life (Isaiah 40:2)
- prepare our child to experience God’s grace in her life (Isaiah 40:3)
But, most of all, you teach your child to live a fulfilling life. You teach your child that the world is bigger than all of us.
You teach your child to dream big. To live with purpose.
And what parent doesn’t want that for their child?
